Adam Matthew Brockett, 27, of Ozark, pled guilty on Monday in Dale County Circuit Court to manslaughter. Brockett was charged after the vehicle he was driving on October 19, 2008 left the roadway on Dale County Road 20, just east of Newton, killing his passenger, Angela Krystal Piasecki, 24, of Ozark.
The case was investigated by the Alabama State Troopers. Brockett’s blood alcohol level was .135 at the time of the crash. Troopers also established that Brockett’s vehicle was traveling approximately 84 miles per hour when it struck several trees after leaving the roadway. Piasecki was pronounced dead at the scene.
Brockett entered a blind plea which means there was no agreement between Brockett and the District Attorney’s Office as to the sentence to be imposed. Brockett will be sentenced at a later date by Judge P. B. McLauchlin, Jr.
The range of punishment for the class B felony of manslaughter is two years in the State penitentiary to twenty years in Staten penitentiary.
The District Attorney’s Office expects to call witnesses including the State Troopers at the sentencing hearing.
